Phuket, Thailand – Starting Thursday, Thailand will welcome international visitors – as long as they are vaccinated – to a 14-day quarantine at its famous southern resort island of Phuket without co-entering a hotel room upon arrival .
They will be free to roam the island for at least two weeks, preparations for which include a large portion of the local population being vaccinated for COVID-19.
Notably, after the initial 14 days, visitors will be able to travel relatively freely elsewhere in Thailand – subject to the same restrictions as Thai travelers.
The “Phuket Sandbox” program is open to visitors from 63 countries and three regions that Thailand has rated as low or medium risk for COVID-19. Requirements beyond nationality are more complex and involve a fair amount of paperwork, in addition to being subject to change.

Visas are not required for stays of up to 30 days for many nationalities. Airlines with direct flights to Phuket include Emirates, Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways, El Al and Singapore Airlines.
Basic requirements before departure for Phuket include:
– Must have lived in the approved home country for at least 21 days prior to departure.
– Certificate of Entry – COE – must be obtained from the Thai Embassy or Consulate.
– Must be fully vaccinated at least 14 days before departure (Children under the age of six are exempt.)
Must have a negative RT-PCR test for COVID-19 within 72 hours of departure.
Must have a minimum $100,000 medical insurance policy covering COVID-19 treatment.
RT-PCR test for COVID-19 should be done on the day of arrival, 6th or 7th day of stay and 12th or 13th day.
-Onboard travel to Thailand must stay for 14 days in approved “SHA+” hotels. Bookings must be confirmed prior to arrival. SHA+ certifies to safety and health standards, which include immunization of at least 70% of employees for COVID-19.
-Install Thailand Plus and Morchana App respectively to track health and location.
-Proof of negative COVID-19 test result during 14 days stay for onward travel to other parts of Thailand.
