WASHINGTON – US consumer confidence rose to an all-time high in June for the fifth month since the pandemic began last year as households responded to an increase in vaccinations and reopening businesses.

The conference board reported Tuesday that its consumer confidence index rose to 127.3 in June, from 120.0 in May.

June’s growth reflected an improvement in consumers’ assessment of current conditions.

Consumer sentiment is expected to pick up in the coming months which will provide greater support for consumer spending, which accounts for 70% of economic activity.
