  • You want to receive discounts when shopping online or find out more about a product or service without the headache of multiple follow-up emails.

“The best rule of thumb for getting and keeping a clean, stress-free inbox is to never provide your information unless you need to,” said Richard Roth, chief executive officer and founder of progressive tech, tells Yahoo Life. “Whenever you give out your email, you should, at a minimum, expect to be automatically signed up for the mailing list. It’s likely that your address will be shared, purchased, or stolen.”

Before sharing your email address, Roth says, “Ask yourself if this is the information you need to provide in this case. There are many loyalty, discount, and rewards programs to track you and deliver relevant advertising.” There are only mediums.”

Roth noted that managing email systems today can be “extremely frustrating.” He says, “Modern life, especially after the pandemic, has a constant need to fill out forms for everyday events and essential services. This means providing personal contact information and avoiding aggressive mailing lists, spam, fraud, and fish.” Luckily, there are some good solutions to help, including advanced spam protection, disposable and temporary email accounts, personal address tracking, and more.

Another advantage of using disposable email addresses? When used properly, you can find out which company sold your information to a third party. “My personal favorite way to manage unwanted communication is to set up a unique email for each service, which traces back to one of your main accounts,” Roth says. Use a unique name that clearly identifies the requestor. If/when you receive messages, it will be clear who spam/sold/shared your address.”

Roth recommends setting up a unique throwaway email address for each of your accounts. “You can have one for your bank, one for your utility bill, one for your salon, etc.,” he says. “If one of the email aliases gets bombarded outright, you can simply turn it off and create a new one. Although it may sound complicated, setting it up with the help of a trained tech support professional is enough. it’s easy.”
