his turn

Major League home run leader Shohei Ohtani is set to pitch for the Angels in his first outing after throwing a perfect first innings total in the All-Star Game.

The two-way star scored his 34th home run in a 7-4 loss to Seattle on Sunday.

Ohtani (4-1, 3.49 ERA) is about to begin when Los Angeles begins a six-game road trip to Oakland.

no derby downer

Some players have refused to participate in the All-Star Home Run derby over the years, saying hard work can wear them down and ruin their swing.

Not so for Juan Soto.

The Washington Star has scored three home runs in three matches since taking part in Tuesday night’s derby at Coors Field. Soto registered an 8-7 win over the Padres on Sunday.

Soto is expected to increase his power when the National Series begins at home against Miami.

good income

AL ERA leader Lance Lynn made his first debut for the White Sox since signing a $38 million, two-year contract until 2023.

The 34-year-old All-Star is 9-3 with a 1.99 ERA in 16 starts. He was acquired in a December trade with Texas for pitchers Dan Dunning and Avery Weems.

Lynn and his Chicago teammates hold an eight-game lead to go into a home doubleheader against Minnesota in the AL Central. Lynn will open the opener.

make his pitch

San Diego right-hander Yu Darvish (7-3, 3.09 ERA) is expected to come off the injured list to pitch in Atlanta. He has passed out with swelling of the left hip.

Darvesh is 0-3 with 6.62 ERA in four starts against the Bahadurs.
