Murphy, Kanha picks Rockies over A; gray injures the elbow


Sean Murphy and Matt Cainha dismissed John Gray, before the Rockies left the Rockies with a pain in his right arm, and the Oakland Athletics beat Colorado 9–5.

DENVER — Rocky had an elbow pain on his right hand before Shaun Murphy and Matt Canha dismissed John Gray, and the Oakland Athletics beat Colorado 9-5 on Friday night.

Murphy had three hits and three RBIs for Oakland, which has won seven of 10 road games and improved to 17-8 away from home.

Gray (4-6) left in the third inning with a right elbow trouble, manager Bud Black said after the game. A potential trade chip for the Rockies, Gray allowed four hits in 2 1/3 innings and five runs on two walks.

Alan Trejo hits his first big league homer for Colorado. The Rockies had won six straight games at home and four in a row overall.

A scored in the first, scored a second on Murphy’s homer – leading from second – his sixth of the season – and scored four times in the third. Kanha started with his 11th home run, and Gray left with a single and a run out before leaving.

Jade Lowry and Murphy each had an RBI single from Chi Chi Gonzalez, and Matt Chapman’s sacrifice made it 5-0.

Colorado scored twice in the third and once in the fourth from Frankie Montas (6-5). Oakland got singles in the sixth and seventh and Trejo’s first major league homer in the seventh of two runs got the Rockies to within 8–5.

Athletics: CF Ramon Loreno (right hip strain) received a cortisone injection into his hip and a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection into his adductor muscle in Vail, Colorado. Oakland trainer Nick Papresta said Loreno will have a follow-up tele-visit on Tuesday and could begin running by Wednesday but will not be active from IL when he is eligible. … RHP JB Wendelken (oblique) will throw a bullpen session on Saturday.

Rockies: SS Trevor Storey (swelling of his right elbow) began his throw at first base on Friday and is on track to return Tuesday in Miami. …INF Ryan McMahon (minor groin tightness) was out of the lineup but got a pinch hit in the eighth.

Oakland LHP Cole Irvine (3-7, 4.12) will open the second game of the series on Saturday against LHP Kyle Freeland (0-0, 4.50), who will make his third start of the season.
