Doug Nikhazzi set a program record with 16 strikeouts and No. 12 overall seeded Mississippi defeated No. 3 regional-seeded Florida State 4–3 in the winner’s bracket game of the Oxford Regional.
Nikhazi (10-2) played seven innings, conceded four hits and three runs, earned two, and dismissed every Seminoles opening player at least once. He joined the Ole Miss record books for strikeouts in a game in Robert Earl Seidel (1962), Jamie Price (1995) and Drew Pomeranz (2009).
Taylor Broadway dismissed the team in the ninth and earned his 15th save of the season with two perfect innings of relief for the Rebels (43–19).
The Seminoles (31-23) and second seed Southern Miss will play an elimination match on Sunday. Ole Miss can win the field on Sunday night against the winner and a Monday rematch will be available if necessary.
Logan Lacey and Isaiah Perry scored Florida State’s three-run fifth inning home runs. Davis Hare (1-2) lost to the Seminoles.
