Fort Worth, Texas – An All-Star race in the Lone Star State with at least five restarts over 100 laps, some inverted tricksters and $1 million for the winning driver.
NASCAR is providing plenty of nights to mark the 25th season of racing at Texas Motor Speedway and dispatch for track president and showman Eddie Gossage, whose last race was on Sunday after overseeing the track two years from its opening in 1995. Happened earlier.

Texas is the third track in three years to host NASCAR’s annual non-points All-Star race. There will be six sections of racing – the first four will each consist of 15 green-flag laps, preceded by a 30-lap segment that should include a four-tire stop, for which the fastest pit crew will receive $100,000, and then 10 to the checker. While the rules package for the cars will be similar to the typical configuration and downforce for a 1 1/2-mile track, a slightly less tapered spacer will reduce horsepower to a range of 500–510, less than the typical 550.
“I think everybody’s going to try and race wide,” said Austin Dillon, who won 11 months ago in Texas in a 1-2 finish with Tyler Reddick for Richard Childress Racing.
“As far as the inversions and all the different starting positions, I guess I’ll leave it to Justin (Alexander, crew chief) and the guys to help me out,” said Dillon, who is fifth. starts with.
For the 17 drivers already qualified for the All-Star race, the starting order was determined by random draw. Joining his father as the All-Star Race winner—Bill Elliott won in 1986, the only one held in Atlanta—the younger Elliott was only the sixth All-Star winner in 25 years to win a Cup title. “It was definitely a big win. And I felt like that was the part of the season where it really started to get better and really well and a little bit more consistent,” Elliott said. So I don’t know if that was just timing or what. … it’s hard to say, but glad it worked out well.”
Elliott is third this year with 10 more races to the Cup playoffs and hasn’t dropped out of the top 10 since the end of the 2019 season. With no points on the line, he would try to win his second consecutive All-Star Race, an event he won from 2016–18 only because of fan votes.
“I’ve been part of this event where we’re not locked in, and it’s not a super fun place to be the afternoon of the All-Star race,” he said. “It feels like another points race, and I don’t feel any different going to other events this week.”
