French Open runner-up Stefanos Tsitsipas says his grandmother died just before the final at Roland Garros against Novak Djokovic
Paris: French Open runner-up Stefanos Tsitsipas said on Monday that his grandmother passed away just before the final against Novak Djokovic at Roland Garros.
Tsitsipas posted on social media that her “very sweet grandmother lost her battle with life” five minutes before she entered the courtroom on Sunday for her first Grand Slam title match.
He thanked her father for raising her and called her “a wise woman whose faith in life, and willingness to give and to provide, cannot be compared to any other human being I have ever met.”
Tsitsipas continued: “It is important to have more people like him in this world. Because people like him make you alive. They make you dream. “
